I remember the day that I figured out what the words meant. I was so excited and ran to my mother to tell her. I think she was surprised. I guess she had better things to do with her time than to figure out the words to a silly kid's song.

I could barely write at all, but I wrote it down ....and she was very impressed to read .."Mares eats oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy, and a kid'll eat ivy too ...wouldn't you?"

It is sort of like the thing we used to do to unsuspecting kids at camp. We would make them get in a circle and bow down and say "Oh Wah.....Tah Goo...Siam" over and over while everyone rolled with laughter. It was interesting to see how long it took for them to "get it."
