I have been seeing the same thing. A while ago my GOOD OLD BOAT magazine sent a notice that "due to mailing, paper and printing costs they will no longer be able to provide their magazine and will be moving to a digital version only".
The above really has nothing to do with the "cocooning" post that Ed responded to. However, you are correct. Publications are attempting to go all digital and no print is the future. The publications know print is eventually bankruptcy. The Wall Street Journal recognized this early on. It is one of the more successful in digital subscriptions. Today's young generations do not read paper newspapers or magazines. Period. It is a fact of life for almost everyone anyone under 30, and is not likely to change. Do you see your grandchildren reading PAPER? Certainly possible, but not likely. For the most part, any all reading is likely on an iPhone or iPad, not on a regular computer. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Just two days ago, we got a notice from the paper carrier that has faithfully delivered our WSJ every day we're here. Not so fast...the Eastern Shore distribution center has informed him that his services will no longer be required after 9/14. We can access the paper by internet or the Post Office mail. What does the above have to do with people retreating to their digital cocoons? The content of the Wall Street Journal is the same whether read online or on paper. If there is any "cocoon" it was there before there was an Internet. |
