For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Facebook - A Political Cesspool commentary by Joe Reynolds, OceanPinesForum.com Esther Diller, Administrator of the Get ~ Involved Facebook page, wrote on July 8 at 7:28?PM: "Hi folks—election season is here again in Ocean Pines, and unfortunately, the mudslinging has already started on other social media platforms. "Let’s be clear: we will not allow that kind of negativity on the Ocean Pines ~ Get Involved page. This is a community page, and our focus has always been on outreach, local charities, and helping our neighbors. That’s who we are, and who we’ll continue to be. "As I’ve mentioned before, I personally support the three incumbents running for the Board. That’s my opinion—and it’s based on their teamwork and dedication. They’ve worked together as a board of seven, without the kind of infighting we’ve seen in the past, and they’ve made decisions with the entire community in mind — not by rubber-stamping, and certainly not by attacking residents, volunteers, or each other. That kind of behavior has no place in Ocean Pines. Let’s be honest: this kind of toxicity is part of why it’s hard to find volunteers for committees or candidates for the board. Who wants to sign up just to be attacked, doxxed, or harassed?" Just a few days later, Diller opened Get ~ Involved to Anonymous posts! The result was what any reasonable person would expect - attacks on candidate Amy Peck, a serious 2025 election opponent of Diller's husband Stuart Lakernick, current board president up for re-election. Over on Sherrie Clifford's ROC Facebook page, we see support for Peck, attacks on Lakernick, and Clifford writing ridiculous muckraking "news" stories in her online paper suggesting Diller and Elections Committee chairman Steve Ransdell are plotting to rig the election results because Clifford says she saw the two of them "whispering" together prior to the recent candidates forum Yes, Facebook may be a fine place to keep in touch with family, but when it comes to politics, Facebook tends to be a cesspool. |
