Was Lefty Kreh there? Or was he strictly salt water?
On occasion. Lefty went big into saltwater when Joe Brooks got him job as director of the Metropolitan Miami Fishing Tournament that put Lefty into the national spotlight. Big move from smallmouth on Potomac. Brooks took Lefty to Tochterman’s in Baltimore and bought him his first fly rod, so the legend goes. Lefty Kreh even visited Ocean Pines. I had lunch with Lefty and several other friends at Denovos some years ago. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I attended the Jungle Cock gathering in Thurmont many years. Got to fish with Joe Brooks and Kurt Gowdy. I always liked Gowdy. Was Lefty Kreh there? Or was he strictly salt water? My best friend attended maybe 1958-1959. He had his picture taken in his fishing gear holding a mearsham pipe. I couldn't believe it. He was 13. Another big thing with boys then was Indian lore at Red Shield BC (camp puh-tok) and initiation into the order of the arrow. Flaming arrows shot across the lake at night. Ya gotta love it. No one was killed. |
