I believe the recommendation was to expand the building, not tear it down.
At the board meeting last Saturday, the novella read by the two ladies clearly indicated the pickleballers wanted a new, much larger building with food service capability, and also including showers and lockers for visiting players. However, the minutes of the February 8, 2024 Racquet Sports Committee contain the following: "We were excited to hear the details and see the plans for the RC building renovations." Also, those minutes contain no mention of any mold problem or employees quitting due to health issues related to mold, even though both the OPA president and the OPA General Manager were present at the meeting. The minutes also state: "The committee took advantage of the opportunity to hear all that our GM, John Viola had to say. He was very gracious with his time as he answered all our questions." Karen Kaplan, a self-professed non-pickleballer, attended the meeting and addressed "Shade" and "improved communication" between the Board and the Racquet Sports Committee. Kaplan never mentioned mold at the February 8 meeting. Yet, if even the tiniest trace of mold is discovered now, pickleballers will be ecstatic. The pickballers have, however, initiated a new political strategy other committees may adopt - "Yell Mold" if the board does not meet committee demands. History demonstrates I am not averse to criticizing the Board of Directors, but this pickleballer nonsense is no more than political theater designed to try and embarrass the OPA Board of Directors. It looks like someone is applying for a lead role. Oh, where is the initially ballyhooed recording of the February 8 meeting? Is it possible it has not surfaced because it contains information the committee does not want association members to hear?" |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I believe the recommendation was to expand the building, not tear it down. If after March 2023 the building was tested, that would be great for OPA to mention that and if the spraying this Summer took care of any issues later found. No updates are mentioned in the minutes. Transparency goes a long way. I'm glad the center is reopened. |
