John Oconnor, a 30+ year member of the Ocean Pines Association, and a volunteer member of the important Budget & Finance Committee for many years, was not allowed into the Organization Meeting as he only had his old yellow membership card. This requirement to show an OPA photo ID to gain entrance to meetings was initiated by Doug Parks in reaction to outrageous threats of demonstrations at board meetings by the Justice for Gavin group many months ago.
The move was questionable at the time and no board meetings were ever disrupted. It is time for the Board of Directors to rescind the ID requirement. It was not needed or necessary for over 50 years and is not needed now. At least the new board did not feel it necessary to have a police presence at the Organization Meeting. About 10 individuals attended the meeting. There were no public comments. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The OPA Board of Directors held its annual Organization meeting on 9/9/2023. Elected officers were Monica Rakowski (Treasurer), Rick Farr (President), John Latham (Secretary), and Stuart Lakernick (Vice-President). There was only one nomination for each position and all positions received a unanimous vote.
