Joe,
What I was trying to say, but I guess not very well, was the software we used last year was primarily a OCR based but would do OMR also. I am recommending and we are still doing testing on software that is primarily OMR but is still able to do OCR. It is the basic software that Scantron uses now although theirs is written to use Scantron forms only. I have had a lot of negative comments on my research. If those folks had OP in their best interests they would send recommendations for me to look at. They might have found something I have not found yet. I am 83 so not as sharp as I used to be. LOL . So far all I have heard is crickets , complaints and derogatory remarks. Nothing helpful. My phone number is : 443-614-0615 If someone has info on any new product. I am always up till at least 10:00 George |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Amy, I said no such thing. I have said that the software I have suggested to use was OMR NOT OCR. We have not used it yet which you just said we did. I went back and looked at the video. George, at around the 7:11 point in the video you said, "The software we used last year was an optical character reader (OCR)" and then something to the effect that the software was "not conducive to reading markings on the ballot." You also talked about some software you found that did mark reading very well. What Amy mentioned was that the software OPA used last year was capable of OCR and OMR. I don't think Amy said we have already used the software you found. Also, based on comments made by committee member Tom Schwartz, it appears he may not yet be familiar with the Resolutions and other documents applicable to the committee work. An example was a lack of knowledge that any "extraneous or non-relevant markings on the ballot" would void the ballot" as you had to point out to him. |
