For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: We have been bouncing around, as retirees do, between restaurants and doctors visits so I will spare you the latter and expound on the former. Here are some of the restaurants we have visited lately with a few thoughts on each [Cliff Notes Versions ]. ![]() We had a gift certificate for Hooked on 80th St in OC so decided to use it for lunch. Hooked is part of that group also including....Hooked Up, Off The Hook, Just Hooked and Tail Chasers spread between OC and Delaware. All worth a visit. We think Hooked has the best Calamari in the area and all their food is excellent. We did notice that the booths at the front windows have been replaced with high tops. Not a seniors favorite but I guess it is a bow to the millennials. ![]() ![]() Pines Public House. I have still, after speaking with multiple people since they opened, heard anything negative about this new restaurant across from Taylors. We have dined there several times and all have been pleasant experiences with very good food and service. A friend, this Sunday, told me he had been there with a friend Saturday night and had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. They still enjoyed the experience. I noticed their parking lot was also filled Sunday evening. PPH is pricey but they have added a few lower priced items for lunch, such as $6 Tacos, at the request of diners. They seem to adapt well which could be a plus for the off season. ![]() Taylors still puts out decent food in a comfortable atmosphere with a nice menu and an excellent hamburger but we have noticed a few changes. For instance one was formerly able to substitute, say steamed broccoli, for fries but now that is a $2.50 up charge. ![]() The OP Yacht Club has certainly stepped up their game but, in our opinion, there is still room for improvement in the food area and menu as well. It is not an inexpensive place to eat. It was a welcome surprise to hear the Matt Ortt group admit the food needed some attention. Some things were basic like warm soup [since corrected on my latest visit] a rib eye rated 5 out of ten by our son and a burger ordered medium rare that was served with a gray look throughout. Half of it was left on the plate. ![]() On the plus side I had friends mention that they also had a large group for dinner at the YC and all enjoyed the experience. The YC has also deep sixed the shoestring fries in favor of the more traditional variety. It was a pleasant surprise when Ortt mentioned they needed to step up their food game which hopefully bodes well for the future. [you can't improve if you don't first recognize your deficiencies For our Anniversary Andrea and I visited Restaurant 213 in Fruitland with some friends. A gourmet dining experience from owner Jim Hughes and former White House Executive Chef and personal Chef to Ronald Reagan that cannot be matched in our area. The bill may require a remortgage on your home but is well worth the experience. Another celebration was a 16th birthday of our Grandson Carson who chose the Sakura Japanese Steak, Seafood and Sushi restaurant in West Ocean City [in former Tanger Outlets center]. Kids love these places with the volcano onion and 3 foot flames with food being thrown into their mouth as a side show. In the old days it seemed to me these places were a value but no more. Around $35 is the norm but the show is good and frankly the food was very good as well and how could you go wrong with a personal chef from Java. DeNovos still holds down the best gathering place reputation and Whiskers Happy Hour makes soda look expensive For some odd reason have been wanting to try out Carribean Joes in the remodeled Alamo Motel and Shottis in OC next to K-Coast store, recommended by a bartender as her favorite. Also Chef Paul Suplees new restaurant in Pittsville. Anyone been to any of these places? That's it! We are fortunate to have so many choices from which to choose. I now have to go lose some weight so we can start all over. |
