I suppose this should come as no surprise. Back on December 20 I posted the following words, almost prophetic then but extremely disappointing now in the reality: Here's the language of the motion approved by the board last night on motion by Reid Sterrett, as received from OPA: "I move the Board of Directors initiate an effort, including meetings with State legislators and County officials, to ensure that Ocean Pines shares in any revenue generated by 'Slots' operations IF slots are approved in the November 2008, state-wide referendum. " The language lacks any specifics. From the discussion last night it appeared Reid would be spearheading this, possibly with some assistance from Rakow, Purcell, and Unger. What these folkds intend to do or ask for is unknown. Bill Rakow seems to be saying OPA should not ask for a fixed percentage similar to Berlin. If not, I'm not sure what OPA will discuss with state legislators. If the amount is not fixed in legislation, then any funds coming to OPA would be entirely up to the county. As a practical matter that is exacly where we were before the board motion. |
