Assawoman Wildlife Area

Photo From: DavidKohler - Album: Kayak-Canoe

Description: Typical road in Assawoman Wildlife Area southwest of South Bethany, DE. Area has 3 boat-launch sites. Sassafras Landing has a small beach section on Miller Creek - may be best for paddlers. Strawberry Landing has a dock and beach also on Miller Creek. Mulberry Landing on Little Assawoman Bay has a dock, concrete power boat ramp, and a small sandy spot at a corner of a bulkhead (See photo in gallery). All 3 launch sites have ample parking, clear grassy area, picnic shelter, and porta-john. Distance from OP is about 20 mi. Get a Sussex Cty., DE map as road names change, some street signs are twisted. Take Rt. 589 & 113 north to Selbyville; right on Rt. 54 (east) (about 4 to 5 mi?), turn left (northeast) on Cty. road 390. The sign says Johnson Rd. My map says Bunting Rd. Road name changes to Bayard as you cross Rt. 20. Continue (about 3 mi?), then right on Camp Barnes Rd. for about 2 mi. Follow signs into the Wildlife Area and to desired launch site.
