Description: The residents of Wood Duck I are proud to unveil the newly finished entrance to their neighborhood. In cooperation with the Ocean Pines Association, residents of Wood Duck I agreed to raise half of the allotted $3,600 by April for the project through donations and fundraising. The OPA, Inc. covered the remaining half, which included materials such as stone, mulch, wood for new docks, sign materials and new lighting. OPA General Manager, Dave Ferguson, gave the go-ahead to Ocean Pines Public Works department to begin the project in May. “We were surprised how much money we were able to raise,” said Wood Duck resident Eileen McCabe. “Dave wanted us to get a 75% participation rate and we were able to get 85% of the Wood Duck I residents to donate at least $45 per household,” she added. The new rock and mulch covered entrance features new docks, new plants and trees, new signs with hand-painted wood ducks and lighting that illuminates the new sign. “As a part of our overall efforts to upgrade all of our landscaping throughout the community, it was especially pleasing to work cooperatively with the Wood Duck residents to complete this project,” said OPA General Manager Dave Ferguson. “Their input into the design and their financial assistance enabled us to create a beautiful entrance to that section of our community,” he added. Special thanks to Ed Wells, OP landscaper and his crew, Dave Hayes, Charity Whalley and Jesus Urrutia from the Ocean Pines Public Works Department for all their hard work and expertise.
