A few years ago Bill Mead encouraged his wife Cassie to join him in the real estate business so she retired from M&T Bank and partnered with him.  This decision culminated when Cassie Mead was installed on Tuesday, October 9 as the 2007-2008 President of the Coastal Association of Realtors (CAR). She regards this as her greatest professional accomplishment.

Mrs. Mead said in her acceptance speech that she hopes to draw on the talents and abilities of CAR members because the involvement of everyone will "…only make this (CAR) a stronger and more successful organization."  She continued, "Communications is an area in which I would like to make improvements this year.  I am planning to have more general membership meetings.  We will stay in constant contact with our members."

The Meads have been Realtors with Prudential Carruthers for two years, moving over from the West Ocean City office in July when the firm opened its fourth office in the Worcester/Wicomico County area at the South Gate of Ocean Pines.  Mrs. Mead has been licensed in Maryland for more than five years and has served on many CAR committees prior to becoming the organization's president.

An active member with CAR for five years, she has served on the board of directors and as chair of the Government Affairs Committee for three years.  Commenting on this latter experience she said, "I gained the knowledge that as an organization together we have the ability to make our voices heard and the possibility to change the course of action."

In her speech on Tuesday evening Mrs. Mead said, “Today lawmakers are proposing to levy a tax on property management services.  If passed, this bill will greatly impact our community.  As your president, I will be proactive in any legislation that will change the policies that may affect our business."

The 1,400 member Coastal Board of Realtors is comprised of Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset Counties. Maryland Association of Realtors President Carole Maclure installed CAR officers and directors following the dinner which was held at Fager's Island in Ocean City.  The officers installed along with President Cassie Mead were President-elect Ron Edelmann, Long and Foster Real Estate; Vice President Gregg Holland, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage; immediate past President Kevin White, Prudential Carruthers; and Secretary/Treasurer Terry Daly, RE/Max Premier Properties.  The directors installed were Jennifer Cropper-Rines, Bill Martin, Sarah Martin, Chris Jett, Terry Looney and Sheila Dodson.

Mrs. Mead was also recently named Realtor of the Year by the Women's Council of Realtors, Delmarva Chapter.
